Herberton Memorial Bowls Club

Herberton Memorial Bowls Club

During World War II, through a co-operative effort comprising Army personel and and community members, work commenced on the excavation and fill of an area adjacent to the Herberton Shire Hall in Grace Street. This area was to become the Herberton Memorial Bowls Club. Funding for the project was raised by donations and fundraising activities.

The green, consisting of a grassed bowling surface containing 6 rinks, was officially opened in 1947, the Club's first president being Mr B.O. Balfe, the town's dentist. The Club house (originally a Doctor's Residence) was moved to its present position in 1949.

The Club plays competitively against other Tableland Bowls Clubs for shields annually, some dating back over years.

Social bowls is held on Saturday afternoons, on the green at 1.00 pm. Names needs to be in Friday evening by the phone or email below. Casual dress, free afternoon tea is provided....

Any locals or visitors passing through are most welcome.
